"Standing Strong, Serving with Purpose: A Celebration of Perseverance and Community Impact."
I am deeply honored to be named a recipient of the 2025 Community Pillar Award, presented by the Miami-Dade County Black Affairs Advisory Board.
This afternoon was nothing short of extraordinary overflowing with love, joy, and the presence of cherished friends. I was especially touched to be joined by several of our very own Red-Carpet Girls, young ladies who represent the very soul of our mission. Having them by my side was a full-circle moment that affirmed everything we stand for.
I extend my sincere gratitude to our tireless Executive Lead, Natasha Simone, whose unwavering commitment continues to push our work forward. A special thank you to Mrs. Phyllis Bellinger, Executive Director of The START Program, for being a steadfast community partner. To my beloved family—especially my husband, Pastor Mark Hedgemond—and to the dedicated parents and supporters who continue to believe in this vision: your presence today touched my heart.
And to the many silent yet powerful supporters—the gentle giants placed in my path who help open the right doors with grace—I see you, and I thank you.
This award is not about me. It is about perseverance—the strength to keep going when doors shut, the courage to press on in faith when the way isn’t clear, and the calling to serve with purpose even when the journey feels uncertain. To be named a pillar is to be recognized as one who stands strong under pressure, bearing the weight of responsibility with resolve and love, in service of others.
This honor reflects hope, faith, and love. And today, I am reminded that the work being done through Avenues of Excellence is not only necessary—it’s impactful. Onward and upward!
From the depths of my heart, thank you. I am forever grateful.
With grace and purpose,
Rose Hedgemond
